The impressive geological formations of the Vikos gorge was one of the reasons for the establishment of the National Park Vikos-Aoos in 1973. The extremely high aesthetic and geological value of the area also contributed to the establishment of the geopark Vikos-Aoos in 2010 by the management authorities and integration into the global network of UNESCO geoparks as a monument of world geological heritage. |
